FAQs
What happens during a first (intake) session?
The first session is for us getting to know each other, and for me to get a better understanding of the challenges you’re facing. We will talk about your reasons for coming to therapy, and together we will define what would make our sessions a success. A few interventions will already take place in the first session.
After the first session, I recommend you to let everything we discussed sink in before you decide whether you want to continue therapy.
Do I need to prepare something before the first session?
Once you have booked your appointment, I will send you a therapy agreement with all practical details about our therapy sessions per email. Also, I will send you a digital intake form. Both need to be filled out and returned to me at least 24 hours before our first session.
How often do sessions take place?
Sessions usually take place biweekly; however, this can vary depending on availability and needs. Especially in the beginning, intervals between sessions should not exceed three weeks.
How long do sessions last?
Couples sessions as well as business coaching sessions typically last 75 minutes, whereas individual sessions last 60 minutes. However, a custom duration is possible as well in case that fits your schedule better. Please be on time for each session, as I cannot extend the hours in the interest of subsequent clients.
What video conferencing software do you use for online therapy?
I offer Zoom, Google Hangouts, GoTo Meeting and Skype. If you prefer another tool, please let me know and I’ll make it work.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you are unable to keep an appointment, please let me know as soon as possible by email or phone. The cancellation fee for late cancellation of an appointment (less than 48 hours before the appointment) is the full amount for the session. This also applies if you were unable to cancel the appointment in time through no fault of your own.
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma treatment that helps individuals process distressing memories and alleviate their associated emotional and psychological symptoms. It involves focusing on specific traumatic memories while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, taps, or sounds. This video provides a comprehensive and accessible explanation of how EMDR works.
How many EMDR sessions do I need?
For small to medium-sized problems, it is typically recommended to undergo an average of 2-4 EMDR sessions. These sessions can provide effective resolution and relief for such issues. The focused nature of EMDR allows for targeted processing of distressing memories, resulting in quicker therapeutic progress within a limited number of sessions.
Which problems can be addressed with EMDR?
EMDR can help individuals address a range of issues such as processing negative past experiences, grief and loss, performance-related anxieties, goal setting, enhancing resilience, stress management, and improving self-confidence. With a focus on emotional barriers and past experiences, EMDR treatment aims to support individuals in achieving personal growth, navigating life transitions, and developing healthier relationships.
